WELCOME TO COPE AVID - WE ARE 212!
Teaching the WHOLE student - every day!
** Cope AVID focuses on closing the achievement gap for ALL students.**
We believe that with hard work and personal determination, every student in our program WILL BE college and career ready when they graduate high school.
[AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination]
WHAT IS COPE AVID?
AVID is a program for students who would like to do better at school. If you are a student who really tries hard but doesn't know how to be a better student, we can help you! In this exploratory class, we will help you to be ORGANIZED, keep (and use) an agenda, teach you how to take good notes, TIPS AND TRICKS FOR STUDYING, and talk a lot about college and career choices. If you struggle in your classes, we offer IN-CLASS TUTORING twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday, with college tutors, who come in to help you. Because we work hard, we also like to play hard! We like to have a lot of fun by attending college sports (like volleyball & basketball) as well as our half-nighter event. In our program, we talk about the benefits of attending college, so if we're going to talk about it, we should go see some colleges! We generally have 4 different COLLEGE FIELD TRIPS each year!
AVID has an open application process that includes everyone! If you have some tough challenges in your life right now, and you feel like you just need a positive place to belong, AVID can also be for you – even if you’re a straight A student! We have an amazing support system where students encourage and have each other’s backs… we don’t do bullying! If you feel like you need a safe and secure place to belong to something bigger, something that is positive, and something that will give you big rewards, then our program might be perfect for you!

The Cope AVID Elective Teachers
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
CAN I TAKE HONORS CLASSES AND STILL BE IN AVID?
Yes! From time to time, students want to challenge themselves to see if they have what it takes to be an Honors student... what better way to try Honors than with support and backing of AVID! This option is available for 7th & 8th grade students.
IS AVID MY ELECTIVE / EXPLORATORY CLASS?
Yes, in order to teach all of the skills to help students be college and career ready, and to provide two days a week of IN SCHOOL tutoring, the students will be signed up for the elective class.
CAN I TAKE TWO ELECTIVES?
YES!! Zero Period PE takes place BEFORE school and this allows students to take two elective programs such as AVID, ASB, WEB, Band, Advanced Art, or Orchestra during their school day. Please note, Zero Period PE starts at 7:45am and there is no transportation services available.
HOW MUCH DOES AVID COST?
Generally, because of a once a year fundraiser, we are able to keep the cost of your child's AVID experience to less than $20 for the whole year! There are supplemental (and fun!) trips that are totally voluntary and those do cost extra. Students are not required to attend the extra curricular field trips.
